Discover one of Oklahoma’s most unique natural attractions at Alabaster Caverns State Park, located just 40 minutes from Woodward in Northwest Oklahoma. The park is home to the largest natural gypsum cave in the world that is open to the public, featuring a spectacular ¾-mile cavern formed from alabaster, a rare variety of gypsum. More than 200 million years old, this remarkable underground landscape offers an unforgettable adventure for visitors of all ages.
The main attraction is the guided Alabaster Caverns cave tour, where visitors can explore the cavern and learn about its geology, history, and wildlife. The cave is also home to five species of bats, adding to its unique natural character. Guided tours are offered daily on the hour from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a fee required. Because tours have limited capacity, advance reservations are recommended, particularly for groups. Group reservations are required at least two weeks in advance.
Beyond the main cavern, Alabaster Caverns State Park offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Visitors can explore hiking trails, picnic areas, group shelters, RV and tent camping areas, grills, and recreational facilities, including a horseshoe pit and volleyball court.
