The City of Woodward is proud to announce the successful completion of the Boomer Tank rehabilitation project, marking a major investment in the city's water infrastructure and a meaningful step forward for long-term utility reliability. This is the first significant update to the tank in over 20 years, and its transformation reflects both the strength of our community and the city’s commitment to future growth.
The project was awarded to G & L Tank Sandblasting and Coatings, LLC, a trusted regional contractor that has now completed five tank rehabilitation projects for the City of Woodward. The work involved extensive cleaning, structural repairs, coating replacement, and upgrades to safety features, bringing the Boomer Tank up to modern standards.
Construction began around Memorial Day Weekend and wrapped up just last week, resulting in a focused and efficient two-month turnaround. Both the interior and exterior of the tank were sandblasted and recoated with high-performance, UV-resistant protective materials designed specifically for water storage tanks. The improvements not only enhance the tank’s functionality but ensure its durability for years to come.
As a finishing touch, the tank now proudly displays an updated Boomer graphic, painted by G & L Tank using specialized, long-lasting paint that will retain color and clarity under Oklahoma skies. With its updated look, the Boomer Tank stands as a symbol of progress while honoring its longstanding role in Woodward’s history.
Located on USDA property near 28th Street and Oklahoma Avenue, Boomer Tank is a critical part of the city’s water storage and delivery network, serving residents across Woodward.
“This was more than just a fresh coat of paint. We brought the Boomer Tank up to modern standards from the ground up,” said Duncan Brittain, Director of Environmental Services for the City of Woodward. “It’s been a workhorse for this city for a long time, and now it’s ready to keep doing its job for years to come. It took a solid team to pull it off, and we’re proud of the result.”
Following the Boomer Tank success, the City of Woodward started rehabilitating the 15th Street water tower this week. This project will include full interior and exterior maintenance and will require the tank to be temporarily drained to complete the work safely and effectively.
The process is expected to take several weeks. While most residents may not notice a change, some areas could experience slightly reduced water pressure during the project. We encourage the community to plan accordingly and thank everyone for their patience as we make these necessary improvements.
This is part of a continued effort to modernize the city’s water infrastructure. After the 15th Street tank, two additional tank rehabilitations are planned, all of which will be completed by G & L Tank.
The City of Woodward remains committed to ensuring a safe, dependable water system that serves the needs of our growing community. These upgrades are about more than maintenance; they're about preparing for the future with our residents at the center of every decision.
“We’re optimistic and excited about the progress we’re making,” said Brittain. “We’re sticking with our motto - Your Community, Our Commitment - and these projects are just one way we’re living that out every day.”
