City of Woodward Receives Oklahoma Clean Community Silver Bison Award

The City of Woodward has been recognized with the 2025 Oklahoma Clean Community Silver Bison Award, presented jointly by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality and Keep Oklahoma Beautiful.

The Oklahoma Clean Community Program recognizes communities across the state for their commitment to environmental stewardship through cleanup initiatives, waste reduction efforts, beautification projects, and community engagement activities.

Woodward accumulated 15 program points during the 2025 program year, qualifying the City for the Silver Bison Award through participation in a variety of environmental and beautification initiatives. Activities included hosting and supporting cleanup and collection events, participating in the Great American Cleanup in Oklahoma, attending educational workshops and sustainability events, and promoting community beautification and pollinator awareness programs.

Among the City’s 2025 initiatives were participation in Paint Oklahoma Beautiful to refurbish a neighborhood park swing set, collaboration with Okies for Monarchs for the Pollinator Party in the Park event, and attendance at multiple Keep Oklahoma Beautiful and Oklahoma Recycling Association educational workshops focused on litter prevention, recycling, and sustainability practices.

The City also participated in the 2025 Keep Oklahoma Beautiful Environmental Excellence Awards, where three Woodward nominees were recognized as finalists. The Woodward Police Department received the statewide award in the Law Enforcement category.

Additional local efforts included community cleanup support through Woodward Main Street’s Beautification Day, distribution of cleanup supplies at the K101 Fall-A-Days Expo, and the award of a roadside beautification grant for the “Flourishing Main Street” project, which will install self-watering decorative planters in the downtown corridor.

“Woodward has continued expanding its beautification and cleanup efforts each year, and this award is a great reflection of that progress and community involvement,” said Megan Johnston, Director of Tourism for the City of Woodward.
